Recent Volunteering, Ron Anderson
From 2005 to 2010, I served as a volunteer at several local organizations including: Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka, Spring Park, MN, IOCP; which runs a private foodshelf in Wayzata, MN; Mission Detox Center, as a general assistant; and Project Homeless Connect that has huge events all over the USA to bring free social services to the urban homeless.
From 2008 to 2014, I led the Bushaway Preservation Fund in an attempt to curtail the damages from County highway reconstruction on community historical and cultural resources, I worked with neighborhood groups to develop the community history, preserve the wetlands, and save 800 trees. Currently, we are producing a broadcast-quality film on the process and outcomes.
U of MN Retirees Association. The University of Minnesota Retirees Association (UMRA) with nearly 500 members looks after the welfare of those retiring from the University. It's main activity is to meet monthly for lunch and to listen to an inspiring speaker on a topic of current interest. I worked for 5 years sas their webmaster and served on their Board. During that time, I started the UMRA Photo Club. In 2012 - 2013, I served as president of the organization.
Foundation for Compassionate Societies. My greatest labor of love has been to establish the Foundation for Compassionate Societies, Inc. as a nonprofit 501-c-3 educational charity. The principal purpose of the Foundation was to fund and manage the web site: CompassionateSocieties.org
It's express purpose was to promote greater compassion in personal and socioeconomic policies through education and small projects. Since 2012, I shifted the focus to human suffering so as to clarify what are the most critical purposes and objects of compassion. Springer published my first book entitle Human Suffering and the Quality of Life. And my edited book on World Suffering and the Quality of Life will be published in 2015.
